October
Sakurai left his room, holding his bag in his hand. He went straight to the dining room where the head of the household was waiting for him. He sat across from his father.
"You are looking for me, father?" He looked for his mother, who he assumed was in the kitchen.
"Yes. Next year, you will turn 30. I think it’s time for you to get married."
Sakurai looked at his father in disbelief. "I am seeing nobody at this moment, and I have devoted myself to teaching the children."
"I know. That’s why I thought an omiai would be good for you. And yes, you can still devote your life to being a teacher. It’s just nice to think you will not be alone after your mother and I pass away."
"Don’t say it like that, father. You will live long."
His father laughed. "Anyway, he will come here next month or maybe before that. Just prepare yourself."
Sakurai sighed. "Well, let’s see when he is here. I need to go or I’ll be late. See you tonight."
"Yeah, see you tonight. Tomorrow, your mother and I will be leaving. So we definitely need to talk tonight."
"You just came here three days ago. Don’t you want to go sightseeing?"
"We’ve seen enough. We need peacefulness in our home. It’s too rushed here."
Sakurai laughed. "Then, I’ll come before dinner time. I'm going." He waved at his father before leaving his apartment.
Sakurai Sho is 30 years old. He is an English teacher at an elementary school. The school is not an elite school. It’s a school for children who lost their homes because of the tsunami a year ago. He started his career at an international school in the city five years ago, but when the tsunami struck one year ago, he had moved to the city to help the children continue their education.
"Good morning, Sakurai-sensei.” A group of students walked past him.
"Oh, good morning everyone." He waved back.
Just before Sakurai entered the gate, he saw a man standing awkwardly at the gate of the school.
"Excuse me?" Sakurai asked bravely.
The other man turned scarlet. "Ah, sorry. Am I in your way?"
"No, not at all. What are you looking for? Maybe I can help."
The other man stumbled with his bag and took out a piece of paper. "Well, was this really the school for the evacuees of the tsunami?"
"Yeah. I’m Sakurai Sho. I teach here."
The other man looked at him in relief. "Finally! I am Aiba Masaki. I will be a volunteer for this school."
"Hey, that’s great It will be fun. Come in. The children will definitely love you."
They walked into the building together. "Sorry, it’s not an official school, so there are only six classes. Each grade only has one class. And there are only five teachers. What will you be teaching anyway?" Sakurai asked, trying to start a conversation.
"Home Economics. It will be fun!"
That morning, after Sakurai introduced Masaki to the other five teachers, Sakurai became Aiba's guide and took him to his class.
"Hey, everyone! Good morning!" Sakurai greeted his students.
"Good morning, Sakurai-sensei!"
"Alright. Right now, sensei has brought someone that will teach you. He is a new teacher in here and he will be teaching home economics.” The students beamed. "You can introduce yourself." Sakurai stepped down so the students could see Aiba clearly.
Aiba smiled brightly. "Hey, my name is Aiba Masaki. I will be your new teacher. Let’s get along. ne!" Instantly, all of the students fell in love with their new teacher. Everyone started asking a lot of questions so they could talk to their new teacher.
Sakurai smiled and decided to sit at the back of the class. He’d let Aiba take over the class. For the second period, Sakurai brought Aiba to the sixth grade.
"What do you think?" Sakurai asked as the class ended. The students were a bit reluctant to let go of their teacher, which made Sakurai chuckle.
"They are so much fun. I can't wait to teach here!"
Sakurai laughed.
"Oh! New teacher, want to grab lunch together?" Ninomiya, a mathematics teacher walked up to them.
"Sure thing. What's your recommendation, Ninomiya-sensei?" Aiba asked enthusiasticallyni
"There is a family restaurant nearby with great curry "
"Let’s go!"
Sakurai looked at both of his colleagues who were skipping happily, waving at the students who were enjoying their lunch boxes. Sakurai followed them both to the family restaurant near the school.
The last period was the first grade, and obviously, they also loved Aiba, who was smiling brightly at them. Unlike when it was Sakurai’s time to teach them, they beamed happily at Aiba.
"It’s so strange," Sakurai says.
"How so?"
"Do you know, how many students in the first grade who like being in my class?"
Aiba shook his head.
"None. They really hate my class, though it’s necessary for the first grade."
Aiba laughed. Sakurai rolled his eyes.
"Yeah I know. You’ll soon be their favorite."
"You’re just too tense, Sakurai-san. The sixth graders love you. It’s just in the eyes of the first graders, you are a boring adult," Aiba explained.
Sakurai looked at his new colleague in disbelief, letting Aiba walk first. Aiba realizeed Sakurai was not walking beside him and stopped to turn. "What?"
"You’re the first person to say that I am a boring adult."
Aiba laughed freely. "I am sorry if I offended you. I am just joking. It’s only a joke, don’t take it to heart. Let’s go!"
Sakurai quickly walked to stand beside Aiba. "Where do you live? You just came to this town, right?"
"Oh, I live with my uncle in his home. I need to take the bus."
"Oh, alright. My apartment is two blocks away. So, I guess we separate here." They stopped outside the school's gate.
"Oh wait, Sakurai-senpai. Can I get your number? I mean, I could text you if I want to ask something, right?" Aiba grabbed Sakurai's sleeve.
"Sure thing." Sakurai took out his phone and handed it to Aiba. After they exchanged contact numbers, Sakurai waved goodbye before walking to his own apartment.
The next day, Sakurai took his parents to the train station before going to work. He had already messaged Aiba to take over his class because he would be late.
"I will come home when the holiday comes," Sakurai said to his parents.
"You don’t need to. We will come again next month," his mother said.
"Are you serious about wanting me to do that omiai?" Crossing his fingers, Sakurai hoped his parents would say no.
"Of course, we want to meet with our soon-to-be in-law. So, see you next month," his father said.
Sakurai sighed. "Fine. Be careful. Call me when you have arrived."
He stayed until the train departed. He checked the clock, finding that he would miss the first period. Sakurai hurried to the bus stop.
Day by day, Sakurai became close with Aiba. They enjoyed having lunch together, and getting drinks after work, either with just the two of them or with the other teachers. The one thing that he enjoyed the most though, was when they taught together. It was so much fun seeing Aiba interact with children, showing that the other man was indeed good with children.
After countless drinking nights, Sakurai found out Aiba was from Chiba. As he is studying for a masters degree in child psychology, he had found the volunteer program at his university. Hoping to get an idea for his dissertation, he took a chance to become volunteer. Aiba was a year younger than Sakurai.
"Do you really like children?" Sakurai asked during one of their dinking sessions.
"Yeah. They are adorable. I’ve always been fond with them. I want to study education, but I know it’s just not my way,"
Sakurai laughed, "Can you believe I actually studied economics, not education,"
"No way!"
"Yeah way. I studied at Harvard for both my undergraduate and masters degree. That’s why when I applied as teacher and passed the test, they positioned me in English."
Sakurai went to Aiba's residence once. He found countless book about children’s studies. He saw the man who was always smiling brightly from another point of view. Whereas others saw Aiba as sort a carefree person, Sakurai began to see him as diligent, earnest, and smart.
Aiba wasn’t there when Ninomiya gave him a flyer about a trip. Every year, the 6th grade students go on a trip, either to a museum, onsen, or any place they want.
"Where we will go, Nino?" Sakurai asked.
Ninomiya is the 6th grade homeroom teacher, so he was the one who organized the trip. "Onsen. They want to go to an onsen,"
"Ii ne, when will we go to onsen?" Aiba bursted in to the teachers’ room.
"Saturday, next week. For two days and one night. The admission is 5000 yen, you in?" Ninomiya asked.
"Of course I am in! there's no way I will pass up this moment," Aiba opened his wallet and handed Ninomiya 5000 yen.
"Eh Nino. Did the students also pay 5000 yen for the trip?" Sakurai asked as he handed Ninomiya the money.
"Of course not. They only paid 1000 yen,"
Sakurai see the flyer and can’t wait for this year's trip.
The day finally came. There is only 20 students in the 6th grade. With six teachers, they took bus to the inn.
Aiba arrived, almost late. Still catching his breath, he chose to sit beside Sakurai. "Catch your breath," Sakurai said.
"I'm really lucky I’m not late. I was afraid I’d need to go there alone,"
The ride took 30 minutes to arrive at the inn. The student divided into four groups, and two rooms. Each room was designed for 10 people, while the teachers all stayed in one room.
That night, Aiba crashed down in to the private outdoor onsen. After arriving, they went to a farm to help do some work. They also made dinner to bond with their students. Finally Aiba can relax in the onsen at night.
"Rough day, wasn’t it?"
Aiba startled at the voice behind him.
He looked back and found Sakurai, naked, with only a towel around his waist. Aiba turned his gaze.
"I didn’t think the trip would be this tough," Aiba tried to relax his body as Sakurai entered the water to sit beside him. A few times, Aiba stole glances at Sakurai, looking at the muscles, his biceps and triceps, that looked delicious despite Sakurai’s slopping Shoulder. Also, the six pack that he couldn’t touch (but wanted to?). Most of all, there were his back muscles, which made Sakurai look gorgeous.
Sakurai saw Aiba stealing glances at his body and smirked. He moved his hands over his muscles slowly, making sure the gesture looked tempting.
Aiba was sure his face was red. He submerged his head under the water to hide it. He was lucky to be inside the hot spring. He knew that Sakurai had caught him looking at his naked body.
"It’s a crime, you know,"
Aiba raised his head out of the water, "Eh?"
"Stealing glance to me,"Aiba's eyes widened.
"Sakurai-san. sorry. I... I...,"
Sakurai laughed, "I’m just kidding. It’s fine, really,"
“Um……”
"What is it?"
"Sakurai-san, I’m really sorry about this. But, can I touch your muscles?" Aiba stretched his fingers to touch Sakurai's biceps.
"Its fine for me," and Aiba touched them.
"Uwaah... they are really hard. You really train them, don’t you?"
Sakurai laughed, "I just enjoy working out. I never had any aim to show them off,"
"Ii ne, I have lung problems, so I can’t burden my lungs,"
"Lung problems?"
"Un, sort of, pneumonia. Twice. But, I don’t want to undergo surgery anymore,"
Sakurai looked at his colleague. His smile didn’t show that he ever had such a sickness. Under the moonlight, Sakurai really saw his friend’s beauty. Unconsciously, Sakurai raised his hand and tucked Aiba's hair behind his ear.
"Eh?" When Aiba turn his head, his lips met with Sakurai.
Surprisingly, he enjoyed the kiss with his colleague. They devoured every inch of each other's mouths until Sakurai realized Aiba needed to breath. He didn’t let go, but he gave just enough space so Aiba could breath.
"We can’t," Aiba said, while still trying to catch his breath.
"Why? You don’t want to?"
"We can’t. There are students and other teachers. What if they see us?"
Sakurai draw back, "Yeah, sorry. But still, we need to talk,"
Aiba smiles, "Yes, when we’re back in town,"
They decided to go back to their room. As they were walking back, they walked past the students’ room. They saw the light on and thought something was wrong. They peeked inside and found one of the girls standing by the window.
"Isn’t that Maida-chan?" Aiba whispered. Sakurai nodded.
"Maida-chan?" Sakurai walked up to the girl.
Maida turned in shock at seeing her two teachers come to her and seeing her crying face. Hurriedly she wipe her tears.
"What's wrong?" Sakurai asked the girl.
"Do you want to talk to us?" Aiba added, Maida nodded.
"Lets talk outside. You don’t want to wake your friends, right?" Aiba put his hand to Maida's Shoulder and took her outside, Sakurai followed them.
They walked to the dinning room and gave Maida a glass of water to calm her.
"What's wrong, Maida-chan?" Sakurai asked
While sniffling, Maida finally talked, "I miss my dad,"
"Your dad?" Aiba asked.
Maida start to cry again, "My dad died in the tsunami. He left me and my mom alone. Now, my mom is really busy trying to keep things together.
"So, your mom doesn’t have time for you? Is that why you are sad?"
Maida nodded, "Before my dad was gone, I used to talk to mom about my day. We would talk and my mom enjoyed listening. Sometimes she would tell me stories about when they were young. But now, mom hardly has time for me,"
"You know, I need to ask my mom about which middle school to go. But, when I want to talk about it she shoos me away, saying she is tired or busy. I can’t talk to her about school," Maida added.
Aiba hugged the girl, "I know losing a family member is hard. There's a lot of things that happen in the blink of eye and everything changes. But believed me, your father doesn’t want you and your mom to grow apart. He wants you and your mom stay by each other’s side to take care of you,"
"But my mom!"
"I know... I know you need your mom. But she needs you too. How about after this, you stay with your mom. Share stories again,"
Maida thinks, "But mom doesn’t even want to talk to me. When I ask her to listen me, she shoos me away,"
Aiba sighed, "Then, how about you be the one to listen to your mother,"
Maida look at her new teacher in disbelief, "Me? Listen to her?"
"Like this, when your mom sees you wanting to talk to her, she is afraid she cant listen to you diligently and afraid that she will hurt you with her advice. That's why Aiba sensei believes that you should be the one who says you will listen to her. You have your mom when you want to talk, but your mom have nobody to listen her. So, it’s your time to show your mom that you will be there to lister to her," Sakurai finally said after understanding the point.
Maida look at her teachers, "I love my mom,".
"I know. And your mom loves you too," Aiba smiled.
Maida hugged Aiba tightly, "Thank you Aiba-sensei. I hope you aren’t going away," she whispered.
Sakurai unintentionally made eye contact with the other man, who let out a sad smile.
"Right, now, you need to go back to your room because tomorrow you need to wake up early to have fun with your friends," Sakurai extracted Maida from Aiba's embrace.
After making sure Maida was tucked in, they returned to the teachers’ room. "Once we’re back in city, we definitely need to talk," Sakurai said.
Aiba nodded before they drifted off to sleep.
The next morning they enjoyed a morning exercise with the students, and grunts from Ninomiya. Both Aiba and Sakurai stole glances at each other throughout the morning.
"What happen with you and Sho?" Ninomiya asked as he and Aiba prepared breakfast.
"Hm? What do you mean?"
Ninomiya made a face, "Oh, please, everybody sees it, even the students,"
"Sees what?"
Ninomiya sighed, "That you two keep stealing glances at each other and blushing madly," and now Aiba was blushing again.
"See! Like this. So you better spilt it,"
Aiba looked at Ninomiya with a straight face, "I’ll tell you when I am sure of it. So you better shut up!"
Aiba hurriedly did his job and left Ninomiya alone.
The rest of the day, they enjoyed with their students. When night came, they made a fire while sitting in a circle. Every student made a letter to their friends and teachers, and they read them one by one. Ints not even reach the sixth students when Aiba let out his first tears. Sakurai rubbed Aiba's back and let the other man cry.
"I didn’t know they felt like that," Aiba said once the event was over.
"What? the students?" Sakurai asked.
"Yeah, I have just been their teacher for 3 weeks and they all had such gratitude for me. I mean, it’s fine if its for you, their real teachers. But me?"
Sakurai stopped in his tracks, "You are his teacher Aiba-SENSEI!" and he led Aiba in to the hallway back to their room.
They were back at school by noon. Sakurai and Aiba waited until all of the students were picked by their parents or safely going home. After making sure, it was only the teachers left, they separated to go back to their homes.
"Want to come to my house?" Sakurai asked.
"I don’t think I can. I need a warm bath and few hours of sleep. I can’t think straight,"
"Fine then. I need rest too. I’ll call you tonight?"
Aiba nodded and they went back to their own homes.
Sakurai said he would call at night, but the call never came. Not that Aiba was waiting, but he quite disappointed there wasn’t any call or text that night.
Fortunately, the next day was Sunday, where, obviously, they’d have a day off. Aiba's uncle decided to go fishing and leave Aiba alone. Thinking he didn’t have anything to do, he took a broom and started cleaning the house.
Aiba finished cleaning the living room and was doing dishes when the doorbell rang. He remembered that his uncle said that no one would come. But still, Aiba thought it would be appropriate to open the door. He expected some delivery or a neighbor. But instead he found Sakurai wearing a very stylish jacket and shirt. Oh, he also saw the wristwatch which, obviously, was branded.
"Sakurai-sensei?"
"It’s Sho. We are not in school, no need for the title,"
Aiba opened the door and let Sakurai come inside. "Sorry, I am in the middle of cleaning the house. Come in,"
Sakurai chose to sit on the sofa while Aiba took a can of juice from the fridge. Giving the orange one to Sakruai, "Why you were here anyway? If its 'because we need to talk', please, you can call me first, so I am not opening the door covered in sweat,"
Sakurai laughed, "It doesn’t matter. even if you open the door with your wake up face, its fine,"
"Oh, don’t worry, that will never happen. You will never see that face of mine,"
Sakurai put the unopened can on the table before standing, "Oh, and I’m here not because 'we need to talk',"
Aiba tilted his head, "I am here for another thing,"
"I love you and I want you to be my boyfriend,"
Aiba was shocked. He frowned, "Wait, what?"
"Well, with the 'we need to talk' talk, we are getting nowhere, So, let me get this straight, I love you and I want to go out with you,"
"...Love me?"
Sakurai laugh impatiently, "How many times should I confess, this is the third time. Aiba Masaki, I, Sakurai Sho love you. So please, go out with me!" Sakurai bowed and stretched out his hand.
Aiba felt his cheeks heat up. He smiled before pulling Sakurai's hand, so he was back to standing. "Well, I like you too, so yes, I will go out with you,"
"Just that? Hey I said it three times!"
"Fine, fine, I love you too, Sho,"
"Right, now, go wash yourself. We're going on a date,"
"Eh? Date?" Sakurai nodded, as he pushed Aiba towards his room, and told him to hurry and shower and change.
30 minutes later, Aiba come out from his room. He had changed from his t-shirt and sweatpants, into a collared shirt, cardigan and a pair of jeans. "Appropriate?"
"Its fine, lets go,"
They left the house and went straight to the bus stop. "Where are we going?"
"Lunch. I made a reservation,"
"You reserved a table just for lunch?"
"Lunch at the most crowded cafe in town, so yes, I needed a reservation,"
They arrived at the cafe after walking for a few minutes from the bus stop. "It’s indeed a crowded cafe,"
They sat at a table near the window on the second floor. After they order their food, what was left was a waiting game.
"So, you reserved us a fancy lunch in the busiest cafe. What if I had said no?"
"After knowing how you kissed me back? I'm pretty sure you wouldn’t say no,"
"But, Sho, I only stay for another week, you know that, don’t you?"
Sakurai tried to not answer, fortunately, the waitress came bringing their food. The tension between them seemed off since Aiba said that. They exchanged no more words except about the deliciousness of the food.
Once they were done eating, Sakurai paid for the food and they left.
"You can’t stay silent. Sooner or later we need to talk,"
Sakurai put his hands in his pocket, "I just don’t want to talk about it on our first date,"
"But we can’t avoid it. It’s only a week away. Like or not, it’s a fact,"
"Then, we do the most this week and we deal with that later when the time comes, fine?"
Aiba pulled Sakurai's hand, "Then at least, you can hold my hand, right?" and laced their fingers together.
They spent the rest of the day walking around town and stopped at a ice cream shop before Sakurai took Aiba back.
"So, See you tomorrow at school," Sakurai said as they stopped in front of Aiba's uncle’s house.
"Sure, see you tomorrow," Sakurai waved his hand and turned. Aiba grabbed his upper arm and turned him, catching Sakurai's lips with his own. "Have a nice dream, Sho-chan"
Sakurai laughed, "You too,"
They continue texting at night, and obviously they had nice dreams. They couldn’t wait for tomorrow morning to come.
In the morning, Sakurai came first and sat in his chair, doing some marking. Last night, they had an agreement that their relationship would stay under radar at school.
That day, they continued to teach in their own class. Sometimes, not so accidentally, they would brush shoulders in the hallway.
"There is something I want to talk to you about," Aiba said when school ended.
"You can’t wait?" Sakurai said flirting, as the teacher's room was closed.
"It’s important," Aiba face showed a seriousness.
Sakurai sensed it was not about their flirting by brushing shoulders today. "Alright. I am all ears,"
"I will end my volunteering here in two days. I need to go back to Tokyo on Thursday morning,"
"...What did you say? How is that possible,"
"I need to tell you the truth, I've been writing my thesis proposal weeks ago, and I mailed my lecturer on Friday. This morning, I got the reply. It got accepted. I need to come for my first seminar proposal on Thursday, so yeah, I need to go back in the morning,"
"You never told me about your thesis,"
Aiba stayed silent and look out the window, "Talk to me. I’ve never heard of you talking about your thesis,"
"I don’t want to talk it,"
"Why? Even though, was just your boyfriend for a day, you wouldn’t let it out even once,"
"My thesis is not your concern Sakurai,"
Now Sakurai is the one that stayed silent, "I hope you support my decision,"
Sakurai took Aiba hand, "No matter what, I will always support you, you need to know that,"
"Even though I’m not sharing my thesis to you, it doesn’t mean I don’t love you, you know that, don’t you?"
"I know. I love you too. So, lets go home,"
For the next two days, they made do with their limited time, enjoying every night in each others arm. On Tuesday night, Aiba enjoyed the farewell party hosted by the other teacher in some kind of private bar.
On Wednesday, they put every student after school in the school's yard for Aiba's farewell. Some of student were already crying. Even Maida was already crying. Aiba tried his hardest to keep smiling in front of his students. Sakurai's hand gripped Aiba's shoulders, giving him a massage to stay strong.
"Thank you for a beautiful memory this past month. It was really great being your teacher. Thank you very much," Aiba give his last bow when, finally, the tears come out.
"You did a good job, you know," Sakurai said as the event finished. After their students were back home and Aiba had received more farewells from the teachers, and of course hugs too, he went home with Sakurai.
"I felt emotional, you know. They’ve been such a good family this past month,"
"I know. I know it really well. you attach personally to them,"
Unconsciously, they had walked to Sakurai's apartment. "Want to spend the rest of the day with me?" Sakurai offered, holding out his apartment key.
Aiba took the key and put in in the hole, "Isn’t it obvious?" He opened the door.
They put their coats on to the stand and their bags on the sofa. "Tonight will be our last meal together, what do you want?" Aiba skipped in to the kitchen, and looked through Sakurai's fridge.
"Anything is fine, I’ll go to konbini downstairs to buy some beer," Sakurai stood and took his wallet, ready to go out.
Aiba took out some onions and carrots and put them on the counter, "No need. I don’t want to drink tonight,"
"Fine then, I’ll take a bath while you prepare our dinner,"
Aiba made a stew in the kitchen and Sakurai entered his bedroom. He leaned on his door before sighing. He looked at the digital clock, showing that it’s already 6.30 pm. He sighed before starting to undress. He put the dirty clothes in to the laundry basket and started showering.
Once Sakurai come out from his Shower, he smelled delicious stew. Sakurai tried to put on his best smile before opening his bedroom door.
"It smells so delicious,"
Aiba turned and put the lid in the pot. "Come in, it will be done in 5 minutes,"
Sakurai sat at the dining table. Aiba was still busy with the stew, and nothing was said between them.
Just before the stew was done, Sakurai helped Aiba set the table. In the end they put the pot right in the middle of the table. That night, they ate in silence.
"I don’t want us to end," Sakurai said as they did the dishes.
"We can do it right? Long distance?"
"Yeah, we can mail, call or maybe video chat every day,"
"Tokyo is just 4 hours away. We can visit each other every weekend," Aiba suggested.
Sakurai took a bowl from Aiba's hand, "Let me do it, you can go take a bath,"
"Thanks," Aiba dried his hands and entered Sakurai's room.
Aiba got out from the bathroom with only a towel around his waist. He didn’t see Sakurai sitting on the bed. "Do you know you are so sexy?" Aiba started as he felt a breath on his nape.
"Sho!"
Sakurai spun Aiba and kissed him right there. Deepening their kiss, Sakurai push the other on to the bed, the towel forgotten the second their lips had met. Aiba's hand hugged Sakurai's nape and pulled him closer, making the kiss more intense, while Sakurai's hands roamed Aiba's naked body.
"I want you," Sakurai broke the kiss so they could take a breath.
Sakurai roamed his hand through Aiba's wet hair, and closed the gap between their lips, but without touching, "For our last night, I want to do it with you," he said huskily.
Aiba kiss him right there, his hand working with Sakurai's t-shirt, "You wear such troublesome clothes,"
They enjoyed the rest of the night in each others arms. Even when they woke up the next morning, they were still cuddling.
"Promise to call every day?" Sakurai leaned his elbow on the bed, while watching Aiba dress in his room.
"Yeah, I’ll text you as soon as I arrive in Tokyo," Aiba buttoned his shirt in front of the full body mirror.
"Are you sure you don’t want me to take you to the train station?"
Aiba turned and saw Sakurai still practically naked on the top of the bed, "Like that?" he teased.
Rolling his eyes, Sakurai just got up and gave Aiba a back hug. "Ill miss you," he put his head in Aiba's shoulder, seeing their reflection.
"I know, I’ll miss you too. Now, leave my waist alone. If you insist hugging me, I’ll need to remind you, I have train to catch,"
Sakurai loosened his hug, and let Aiba finish dressing. "Don’t worry, Sho. You know I love you, and I am serious. We can meet on weekends,"
"I know, I love you too. And be careful, you know, with everything,"
After Aiba finished dressing, he took his bag. Fortunately, he had already sent his things the day before, so he only had to bring one bag and could go straight to the train station.
"I love you," Aiba said as he gave Sakurai another kiss. Sakurai returned it and deepened it, "Love you too," He whispered.
The next minute, Aiba left the bedroom. Soon enough, Sakurai could hear the apartment door open and close.
One month later
In the past month, Aiba and Sakurai kept mailing back and forth. Even though they promised to meet on the weekend, their schedules wouldn’t match up, so they gave up eventually. They had to be satisfied with only mailing, the phone, and sometimes a video chat.
Today, Sakurai had promise to pick his parents up at the train station for their monthly visit. Fortunately, they arrived after his work time.
"How are you? Dad? Mom?" Sakurai asked as he opened his apartment door.
"We're good. How about you? Still same as before?"
"Yeah, of course," he helped his parents put their bag in the guest room.
That night, his mom decided he deserved a home cooked meal instead of take out, so they had a full meal as family that night.
"Sho, Our conversation last month about an omiai," his dad said after they were done with their dinner.
Sakurai took two cans of beer for himself and his father, "You’re still insisting I have an omiai?"
"Well, actually, it will happen tomorrow. I’ve already talked to my friend and their family is here. We will meet them tomorrow night,"
His mother joined them with a cup of tea, "Yep, we will meet them. I heard he is a good man, he also has a degree too,"
Sakurai kept silent. "Is there something you want to tell us, Sho?" his father asked.
He put his can in the table, and changed his way of sitting to look straight at his parent, "Well, I haven’t told you, but actually I already have a boyfriend. We’ve just been going out for a month and we are in a long distance relationship," He confessed to his parent.
"Well, how come I don’t know about it?"
"Our relationship is still really young, and with living in different cities, it means we hardly meet each other. That's why I haven’t told you. No one knows about it,"
Sakurai's mom look at her husband, "But we cant just cancel the omiai," she said.
The head of the Sakurai family thought for another possibility, "Well, obviously, you still need to show up tomorrow,"
"But," Sakurai interrupted his dad.
"Hear me first, son!"
"Sorry,"
"At least you will come tomorrow. Then, you can say to them that you can’t continue the omiai and reject it because you are already in relationship,"
Sakurai thought about it for a while, "I think that is the wisest idea," he concluded.
The next day, they enjoyed their time as a family, catching up on their moments since last month. Sakurai also talked to his parent about his relationship with Aiba. But He hasn’t told Aiba about the omiai since he intend to reject it.
When the night came, They were getting ready to go to the restaurant. Sakurai wore his baby blue shirt and a coal blazer with a matching tie and shoes.
They drove to the restaurant. Actually, Sakurai was quite nervous, since this was the first time he had gone to an omiai. Moreover, he was going to reject someone on his first time. The waiter led them to a private room in the restaurant. Just before his dad opened the door, his dad looked at him.
"What?" he asked.
"I know you’re going to reject, but please, use the politest way,"
"I know dad. Don’t worry,"
The door finally open, in front of him sat two men and a woman. One of the men was older, judging by the loss of his hair. The younger one stood up, and Sakurai felt odd as the other looked so familiar. The other man finally turned and smiled at him. Sakurai could only chuckle.
"Ah, Nice to meet you, My name is Aiba Masaki. Please take care of me," the others bowed at him.
Sakurai's father patted his son's shoulder, "Isn’t there something you want to say?" he said.
Sakurai laughed silently. Then he pulled Aiba's tie and mashed their lips together in front of their family. Aiba heard some gasps behind them, but he just smiled as he deepened the kiss.
